Review: Illamasqua Cream Foundation CF 115

Sadly I’ve been hugely disappointed by the Illamasqua Cream Foundation (shade/colour: CF 115). I was so excited when I ordered this product, I had hoped it would give a full coverage, porcelain doll effect. Luckily I purchased it for £10 in the sale, but I am still considering returning it (or attempting to, need to read up on their sale returns policy!).

I’ve just visited the Illamasqua site to check their description and it now says that it’s been discontinued (in this shade at least). In my opinion this can only be a good thing because I’ve found it completely unworkable, maybe others have too… I’d love to hear your experiences, especially if you’ve managed to make it look good!

Here’s what Illamasqua say about it:
Create a base that brings out the bold in you. Illamasqua Cream Foundation provides medium-full coverage and works with your skin to cover and enhance. It blends easily, allowing you to vary coverage as much or as little as you need, effortlessly balancing uneven skin tone and giving you the control to create a flawless finish. Comes in a mirror compact for touch-ups on the go.”

I have found that it does not blend easily, to the contrary in fact. I’ve tried blending it with the sponge, both wet and dry, with a brush and with my fingers. Nothing stopped streaking or caking, although after application with the sponge, blending with my fingers produced the best results.

Scary! With flash

Without flash

After cleansing & moisturising, I’ve used it with and without my Stila Colour Correcting Primer and it wasn’t any better either way. It sits in my pores, cakes and dries out. From a distance it looks lovely, but as soon as anyone gets within a foot and a half it’s obviously not good. The photos don’t do any justice to just how bad this looks close up!!!

It maybe excellent for stage makeup, as the finish is not so important because it’s being viewed from a distance. But for everyday day wear I have to give this a massive thumbs down. 😦

Lovely from a distance!

I’m wearing the cream foundation with:
Benefit Bad Gal mascara
Stila Colour Correcting Primer
Benefit Erase Paste
Illamasqua Cream Pigment in Hollow
Illamasqua Cream Blusher in Promise
No.7 Perfect Light loose powder in Translucent
Rimmel Professional Eyebrow pencil in 002 hazel
Rimmel Scandaleyes kohl in 005 nude
Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake

Brave New World!

This is my first ever attempt at blogging and if I’m honest, it’s a little intimidating! My blog will cover my favourite things, including music, pinup style and makeup, amongst other treasures and I hope you enjoy it {^_^}

I’m 30 and live in London with The Captain and a little grey cat called Totoro.

The little grey cat

I work in admin and it is fairly mundane, although there is the chance of a new job on the horizon…

I’m currently writing on my new Kindle Fire HD, which was my Christmas present from The Captain. I am thrilled with it, I love being able to Skype with my sister and baby nephew, easily read blogs, reviews and watch Youtube.
3 Christmases ago The Captain bought me my first Kindle (3G, with WiFi & keyboard), and I prefer to read using that device. My Kindles are so precious to me & I feel lucky to have them. I’m currently really enjoying historical fiction, such as Essie Fox’s The Somnambulist. I’ll write a post on that book soon ^_^

Another book I’ve loved recently was The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It’s not the kind of book I would normally go for (I’m not mad on magic), but I saw a lady reading it on the tube and loved the cover so much that I downloaded it instantly! In this case you can judge a book by its cover!

Things I’d like to cover in future posts:
Makeup: Illamasqua, Pixi, Benefit, Washi tape decorated makeup box
Literature: The Somnambulist, The Night Circus, Faye L Booth, Michael Cox, John Harwood
Music: The Divine Comedy – Neil Hannon’s 42nd birthday, Public Service Broadcasting – The War Room EP

I hope I haven’t waffled too much and I hope I’ve given you an idea of what to expect from my little corner of the internet.
1st blog post over and out.
Love Hankie {^_^} xxx
